Market Transformation Programme
Welcome to the Market Transformation Programme
The Market Transformation Programme (MTP) supports the development and implementation of UK Government policy on sustainable products. On this site you will discover information on the Framework Directive for the Eco-design of Energy Using Products (EuP) and the studies being developed for individual products.
Some of our latest information includes:
- Publication of a research report “Factors influencing the penetration of energy efficient appliances into national markets in Europe”
- A new ‘Consultation on saving energy through better products and appliances' launched on 17 December 2009. Stakeholder input is invited by 12 March 2010
- Release of compliance test reports issued 30th November for Washer Driers, Lamps and Electric Ovens are published on the Compliance Web Page.
- Publication of Policy Analysis and Projections 2006/2008 - a snapshot of the MTP evidence base
- Information about the Consultation on sustainable products supporting the Energy White Paper for 2008 can be found by clicking here
- Defra Retailer Initiative - encouraging the sale of more energy efficient consumer electronics and associated Red/Green Calculator.
- Call for Expressions of Interest to Join Experts Register
MTP reduces the environmental impact of products across the product life cycle by:
- Collecting information. Stock, sales, usage and resource consumption data is gathered on household and industrial products, such as televisions, fridges and electrical motors.
- Building evidence. The information gathered is used to model how products will evolve in the market place and to estimate future environmental impacts.
- Working with industry and other stakeholders. A common understanding is reached on how these impacts can be mitigated; action plans are agreed and the measures implemented.
MTP supports the UK Government’s strategy on Sustainable Development. In particular, MTP underpins the product policy aspect of the framework for Sustainable Consumption and Production.
